When you come to speak of Black Metal, there is no way you can omit the land of the three crowns – Sweden. Furthermore, when talking about Swedish Black Metal you have to name Stockholm’s Dark Funeral: The ineffable kings of Swedish Black Metal. A title bestowed upon the band by their many, many loyal fans throughout the world. However, there would be no Dark Funeral without the remaining founder member Micke Svanberg, worldwide known and much respected as Lord Ahriman.
Originally from Luleå, a small town in the north of Sweden, Lord Ahriman developed an interest in music from a very young age. Coming from a somewhat musical family he started songwriting himself around 1989.
He formed his first band "Satan’s Disciples" [1989-92] when he was still living in Luleå. In 1992 he moved to Stockholm. And in 1993 he founded Dark Funeral.
Already with their first full length album – THE SECRETS OF THE BLACK ARTS – the band altered the perception of Black Metal for good. Praised by fans and critics alike, that very Dark Funeral debut is deemed to be probably the first so-called anthemic, melodic Black Metal album of all times. Due to the outstanding guitar work of Lord Ahriman the album captures a sinister atmosphere that is still unmatched today. The melodies and the guitar work were so new and unique at that time, that people did not believe their ears and thought that the sound, vibe and atmosphere were created by using keyboards. However, there are no keyboards.
Until today, Dark Funeral’s albums are borne by Lord Ahriman’s unique shredding technique that he proudly delivers by employing the fine craftsmanship of BC Rich Guitars.
Now, with a new stable Line Up, Dark Funeral are back on Metal’s map and the interest in the band seems greater than ever before.
See Lord Ahriman and his brothers in crime destroying the world’s stages taking no prisoners whatsoever, wherever.
Lord Ahriman – the true emperor among the kings of Swedish Black Metal.
